Those attending the Latin American and Caribbean Congress of International Commercial Arbitration,

Convinced that regional integration processes are a way to advance towards a universal process of globalization, well balanced and respectful of the interests of all States belonging to the international community.

Port-au-Prince, Haïti, OHADAC Conference, June 17th & 18th, 2008

To address this concern, a second OHADAC Conference was held in Port au Prince, Haiti, in June 17-18, 2008; it revealed a very strong desire throughout the entire Caribbean community for an effort such as OHADAC, to harmonize business law and enhance the rule of commercial law.

Opening statement of Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, French West Indies of May 15, 2007

The OHADAC project, acronym for the ORGANIZATION FOR THE HARMONIZATION OF BUSINESS LAWS IN THE CARIBBEAN, was created at the Conference of May 15, 2007 in Pointe à Pitre, Guadeloupe. The organization takes its name from the OHADA treaty harmonization business laws which links 16 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and is considered today as an example of integration by the international community.

OHADAC: A vector of regional integration in the Caribbean

The OHADAC project is keenly conscious of its geographical environment. Indeed, composed of a mosaic of States resulting from English, Dutch, American, Spanish and French colonization, the Caribbean enjoys a varied legal heritage.
