Conference of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators on International Arbitration in Georgetown, Guyana - 23/27 April 2018

afficheAn important conference organized by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) will take place in Georgetown, Guyana, between 22 and 27 April 2018. This conference will address the theme of Arbitration and Economic Development in Guyana, focusing more specifically on the Energy sector.

This conference is organized by the Caribbean branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, which is the world's leading centre of excellence for the promotion and facilitation of dispute resolution.

It will comprise CIArb training in commercial arbitration and mediation for lawyers and non-lawyers (23 and 24 April) as well as two conferences on international arbitration issues. The first conference (on 25 April) will focus on the fundamental workings of commercial arbitration proceedings, while the second arbitration conference (26-27 April) will guide participants through each stage of a dispute between an investor and a state.

Marie-Camille Pitton, who is in charge of the creation and the development of the future OHADAC Centre for arbitration and mediation, will moderate a panel on the function and purpose of the arbitration agreement, on the morning of the 25th of April.

This event will be the opportunity for government officials, lawyers, investment professionals, judges, regional organizations' representatives to share their invaluable knowledge and experience and highlight various issues, opportunities and emerging trends, while contributing to the development and sophistication of the expertise on alternative means of dispute resolution in the Caribbean region.
